wood floor services

Lima’s Flooring has been installing, refinishing, repairing, and restoring wood floors for homes and businesses in the Kansas City Metro area for the last 15 years.

Our experienced craftsmen generally install four different types of flooring:

1. Unfinished Flooring

Unfinished flooring is wood that is sanded, stained, and finished right in your home or business. There is no treatment of any kind done to the wood prior to installation. This is a great option for those looking for a high quality wood floor of a specific color, design, or texture. Unfinished flooring also offers a stronger seal than other types of flooring. This is because the flooring is completely installed before the sanding, staining, and finishing seal is applied.

2. Pre-Finished Flooring

Pre-finished flooring is flooring that is ready to go before it even arrives at your door. All the sanding, staining, and finishing was done in the factory so that the floor is ready to be fitted into place without these additional steps. A benefit of pre-finished flooring is that it is easier, quicker, and cleaner to install than unfinished flooring. There are two different types of pre-finished flooring:

Solid Hardwood

Solid hardwood flooring is simply planks that are made out of a solid piece of wood. Solid hardwood floors come in many different types of wood, and vary in thickness and width.

Engineered Wood

Engineered wood consists of a composite made of 10 thin layers of wood bonded together in a cross ply formation to give it strength and durability. You will also find that engineered wood offers many different types, sizes, and styles.

All the sanding, staining, and finishing was done in the factory so that the floor is ready to be fitted into place without these additional steps. A benefit of pre-finished flooring is that it is easier, quicker, and cleaner to install than unfinished flooring. This means the project as a whole will be cheaper as well. 3. Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is essentially a multi-layer synthetic flooring product that imitates the look of real wood. When looking at it, you’ll be surprised how real it looks! Although laminate flooring is not technically real wood, it offers some benefits over wood flooring. While real wood expands and shrinks due to the humidity in its environment, laminate flooring is highly resistant to changes in the humidity. You will also usually save money when going with laminate flooring over traditional hardwood flooring. Downsides to laminate flooring include a shorter lifespan and lack of durability compared to hardwood flooring.

4. Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is similar to laminate flooring in that it is also a synthetic product that imitates the appearance of a wood floor. The main difference with vinyl flooring is that it is waterproof. While laminate flooring is water resistant, not waterproof. This allows the vinyl flooring to be installed over slight scoops or raises in the floor below it without shifting or “squeaking” like other types of flooring.

Our hardwood flooring professionals will help you decide what type of flooring is best for you based on your style, needs, and budget. Flooring is our passion at Lima’s Flooring and we want to make sure you are happy with your brand new hardwood flooring.
